Using Water only for Istinja

E-mail Print PDF

Q: When making istinja (cleaning private parts after using the toilet) for my toddler daughter, is it sufficient for me to throw water and wipe her with toilet paper or is it necessary for me to use my hands to wash her? Does the same rule apply for me as an adult?

A:
If pouring the water removes the impurities then it will suffice.

Yes, on condition that all the impurity is completely removed, otherwise the hand will have to be used.

Delaying Bath after Sexual Intercourse

E-mail Print PDF

Q: I'm happy to know that it's permissible to delay an obligatory ghusl (bath) after sexual intercourse. The reason is I'm living with my in laws and when I go to the kitchen early morning it gets quite late to complete all the work and come back. So it becomes afternoon by the time I finish all my work and get ready to take a bath. I hope is it allowed without any conditions? Also I would like to know if its ok to have sex more than one time during the day or night without taking a ghusl bath? Please let me know. Also please let me know if its okay to fall asleep without taking wudhu after intercourse.

A:
The main factor to consider when delaying a Ghusl is that it must not affect a Salaah. Salaah must be made on time and it must not become Qadhaa.

Sexual intercourse more than once without a Ghusl in-between is permissible. Although it is permissible to have multiple discharges and then have one bath at the end, it is better to have a bath after every discharge. If not, then at least Wudhu should be made between every discharge. If a bath or Wudhu was not taken between discharges, no sin will be incurred.  (Raddul Muhtaar V2 P12)

Sleeping without Wudhu after intercourse is also permissible.

Washing Ears in Wudhu

E-mail Print PDF

Q: Is washing the ears part of the wudhu? And what is the method?

A:
Masah of the ears is part of Wudhu.

Method of Masah of the ears:
Make Masah of the ears after Masah of the head. Use the forefingers for the inside of the ears and the thumbs for the back of the ears. Start with the forefingers from the ear-holes and follow the curves till you reach the earlobes. Thereafter place the thumbs at the bottom of the ears in the back (behind the earlobes) and pull them towards the top of the ears. Then place the two small fingers in the ear-holes and shake them slightly. The Masah of the ears is complete. If per chance any portion of the ear was not covered in Masah, the Wudhu is still valid. (Al Bahrur Raa'iq V1 P27).

Wiping Face after Wudhu

E-mail Print PDF

Q: Is it sunnat to not wipe your face after wudhu?

A:
Hadhrat Aa'ishah (Radhiyallaahu Anhaa) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi wa Sallam) had a cloth which he used after Wudhu (Tirmidhi V1 P89).

Hadhrat Maymoonah (Radhiyallaahu Anhaa) says that once she presented a cloth to Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi wa Sallam) but he did not take it, instead he brushed the water off with his hands(Bukhaari V1 P267).

So both are proven in the Sunnah. It also depends on the individual's choice, temperament, health and season.

Allah Ta'aala knows best.
