Fasting

Spouses Romancing while Fasting

E-mail Print PDF

Q: While fasting how much distance should a husband maintain from his wife?

A:
This depends on your self restraint and control. If romancing lightly with the wife does not affect you and there is complete control then it is fine.

On the other hand, if you feel that you will lose control or get carried away, then do not do so.

It will be best not to do anything while fasting.

Allah Ta'aala knows best.

Inserting Finger in Back while Fasting

E-mail Print PDF

Q: If the finger being was in the anus cavity just for cleaning purposes, will this break the fast?

A:
If a dry finger is inserted and then removed, the fast will not break.

If a wet finger is inserted or after the dry finger was inserted, it was removed and the re-inserted, the fast will break and a Qadhaa of that fast will have to be kept.

This is the ruling, whether done knowingly or unknowingly.

Fasting and Ejaculating

E-mail Print PDF

Q: Does the fast break if by squeezing the thighs together ejaculation takes place or if by thinking of women ejaculation takes place? Will this be counted as masturbation and will kaffarah be wajib ?

A:
Even in masturbation, Qadhaa will become Waajib and not Kaffaarah. In the first case you mentioned, Qadhaa will be necessary and not Kaffaarah.

If ejaculation takes place by thinking (without touching, squeezing or rubbing at all), the fast will not break.

Q: Does the fast break if water gets into the stomach while making istinja and will kaffarah have to be made?

A:
It is difficult to get water up the anus, but if it does happen, Qadhaa will be necessary and not Kaffaarah. Do not insert a wet finger into the cavity of the anus while making Istinjaa.

Paying in Missed Fasts in Advance

E-mail Print PDF

Q: With regards to Qadha fasting for a woman who breastfeeds: Can someone pay in fasts before the commencement of Ramadhan?  e.g If she plans on fasting every alternate day and knows she'll have 15 days to pay in, can she do this before she's missed the fast?

A:
If you mean that can she keep those fasts before time, then no, this wont be valid in all Madhabs.

Unable to Fast or Pay Kaffarah

E-mail Print PDF

Q: Years ago a person had broken his roza (Ramadan fast) many times when he was mature. Today that person's condition is financially and physically not so good that he can keep the 60 fasts and can't even give food to the poor. What he can do excluding these two things ?

A:
If he cannot do these then the only thing left is Istighfaar and Taubah. But if later he regains his health or gets wealth he will have to make qadhaa in the case of gaining his health. If he does not regain his health but gets wealth, he will have to pay Fidyah.

Age for Kids to Fast

E-mail Print PDF

Q: From what age must a child keep the fast of Ramadaan? Boy and girl?

A:
Salaah is encouraged from the age of seven. Similarly, a child can be encouraged from seven to fast, even if it is half a day. Gradually it can be increased. Only encourage the child if the health permits. By ten they should be more regular and by twelve they should be fasting fully. Once Baaligh (mature in Islamic terms), it will be Fardh.

Allah Ta'aala knows best.
