Questions of the Week
Three Talaaqs

Q: My husband and I had an argument and he said some hurtful things which he often says when we have our arguments. The next day we were talking and he asked me if I wanted a seperation. I said yes and he immediately mumbled Talaaq,Talaaq,Talaaq and got out of the car. Please advise if this terminates the nikkah (marriage).

A. Three Talaaqs have taken place and there is no possibility of reconciliation unless you marry someone else, but such a marriage must not be planned and arranged by the husband or yourself. You will now have to undergo the Iddat period.

Calculating Subh Sadiq

Q: How do I calculate what time Subuh Sadiq (true dawn) starts?

A:
Subuh Sadiq is about 1 hour 25 minutes before sunrise in Port Elizabeth. This is a basic and safe way to calculate subu sadiq or true dawn.

The Final Analysis

People are often unreasonable, self-centred: Forgive them anyway. If you are honest, people may cheat you, but be honest anyway. What you spend years to build, someone could destroy overnight. Build anyway. The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow. Do good anyway. You see, in the final analysis it is between you and Allah, it never was between you and them anyway.

Q: Is there a hadith stating that machine slaughtering is not right. I know in the holy Quran it is mentioned that one must eat halal but there are no details about handor machine slaughter.

A: Machine slaughtering is a method which came into vogue much later so will not be mentioned specifically in Hadeeth. The ruling on such issues is issued according to the principles extracted from Qur'aan and Hadeeth by the jurists.

METHOD OF MACHINE SLAUGHTER:
1. The operator of this machine must cut only one chicken at a time. He should not hold down the button and allow the blade to run continuously, thereby cutting two or more chickens. Each chicken should be cut separately by the machine operator pressing the button once and then stopping the blade before repeating the process with the next chicken. The reason for this is to exercise complete control over the machine, for it is a requisite that the slaughterer must have full control over the instrument used for slaughtering. It is precisely for this reason that normal machine slaughter, which you referred to in your question, has been declared unlawful.
2. The operator should fulfil Tasmiyah (Bismillah – Allahu Akbar) exactly at the time of pressing the button, not before nor after. If this is not done, the chicken will be Haraam, unless he forgot to recite the Tasmiyah.
3. The operator of the machine must be a Muslim.
4. The machine should be operated in such a manner that all four or at least three of the four veins in the neck are cut. If in the operation of the machine this does not happen, then too, the chicken will be rendered Haraam.

And Allah Ta’aala knows best
